Last week I had the exciting opportunity to meet up with the guys in the pop/rock outfit, Diamond to snap a few promo shots. The thing that makes this band so unique is the distance that spans between each of the four musicians on a regular basis. Sam and Brendan make up two fifths of the hardcore band, Trapped Under Ice who is constantly on the road playing city after city full of some seriously aggressive and supportive fans. Justin is based in Chicago, not on the road quite as often, but invests much of his time in a separate musical venture called Rites, and runs a full time design business. And when he isn’t writing for Diamond, David plays bass guitar in a little band called Terror. The legacy that Terror has established in the hardcore music scene goes deep and shows no signs of slowing… which means David too has his hands full.
Knowing all that, it should come as no surprise that these four dudes aren’t often in the same place at the same time. So when the TUI/Terror tour came through Chicago, we all saw a golden opportunity to get a camera lens in front of them.
The energy shared between the four is so apparent and outpouring, it made this photo shoot a breeze. There was no need for a theme for the shoot, or dependence on a studio lighting set up; the genuine positive attitude towards writing and performing music, collaboration among friends, and the general excitement to create that each member of the band embodies is the story that these photos are trying to tell.
Diamond has released five remarkably catchy songs, available for download at no cost here, http://photoboothrecords.bandcamp.com
I’ve had the pleasure of hearing some new material, and you can take my word for it that these songs get better and better with every new one they write. The energy they put into their music is reflected in direct proportion to the energy in the photos I took of them last week. The above shots are a small sample, and I’ll be posting the whole collection very, very soon!
