Two Years (104 Mondays)
—
For the last two years, I’ve taken my cameras along with me on trips, through the city of Chicago, to parties and events, mostly to capture small curiosities or details of my life. Shooting with film gives me a way to look at common practice through a different perspective, and I always learn something new when I review a developed roll. The best part about it is a single image will often inspire a much larger project, influencing not just my photography, but my design work as well.
I’m fascinated by not knowing exactly what image will produce when I open the shutter. That my state of mind is never the same when I review the film, as when I shot it, causes me to see one thing in two very different ways, allowing a certain kind of reflection process that I find to be very beneficial to my work. And what sharing them here gives me is a regular opportunity to curate, which is such an important part of the creative process.
So, 35mm Mondays is now officially a toddler. And growing up fast!

100
—
Today marks the 100th Monday since starting my weekly photographic tradition. The date that corresponds with each post rarely has any effect on the curation process, but today just felt extra special. I couldn’t decide at first what sort of image to produce for today’s post, which led me down the path of making images out of ’100 things’ or spelling ’100′ with christmas lights… I took a few shots of ’100′ set in Helvetica Bold, as a way to stay objective about it. I found myself with a really captivating collection of images, and have decided to continue shooting the number as a way to explore natural image distortion and light refraction. I’ll be sure to share some process shots along the way!
Oh, today is also my 25th birthday. So thats a fun bonus!
